This comprehensive course has been designed by dermatologists for GPs to help them diagnose and optimally manage common skin, hair and nail conditions. You will learn about modes of presentation, relevant investigations and management of all of the common skin conditions from acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis through to drug rashes, hair loss and common cosmetic complaints. Skin, the largest organ of the human body, makes up 15% of general practice consultations on a day-to-day basis. Add this to the challenging breadth of dermatology, for example there are as many as 2,000 varying dermatologic diagnoses. Undergraduate dermatology training is minimal in many medical schools and without some postgraduate dermatology training, GPs are often underequipped to handle common presentations such as paediatric infections, atopic eczema, chronic plaque psoriasis or female pattern hair loss.
